Eight players earn all-state honors

Five boys and three girls have been chosen for various all-state basketball honors by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

For the boys, Texico senior Cade Figg was a first-team selection in Class 2A, while Clovis High senior Marvin Cox, Portales High junior Paxton Culpeper in Class 4A and Melrose junior Brayden Eldridge in Class 1A were accorded second-team status. Also, Buffaloes junior Josiah Roybal was an honorable mention pick in 1A.

Girls honorees, all in Class 1A, were seniors Graci Odom of Melrose and Faith Jasso of Dora on the second team and Lady Coyotes senior Bre’Ann Rodriguez for honorable mention.

Meantime, Culpepper was one of three PHS boys chosen for All-District 4A first-team honors, along with junior Jase Hightower and sophomore Carson Pfaffenberger. Culpeper was named the district’s co-player of the year as well.

Junior Joel Lujan represented PHS as an honorable mention choice. Three Rams – Culpepper, junior Bradley Aguilar and sophomore Ethan Crawford – were named to the district’s all-academic squad.
