Christmas in July event approved by commission

Christmas will be celebrated two times in Clovis this year; the first celebration will be in July at Hillcrest Park Zoo.

Stephanie Chavez, zoo director, presented to the commission at their regular meeting Thursday and expressed her excitement for the first ever Christmas in July.

The commission unanimously approved of the event.

“I love Christmas,” Chavez said. Celebrating the holiday two times a year was something Chavez wanted to bring to the area.

“A lot of animals are going to be out because it’s going to be warmer weather,” Chavez said. “So we’re not going to have to put up any animals as opposed to December.”

The event will start Friday, July 19 and last through Sunday, July 21. However, Friday will be an adult only night, with alcohol being served.

“It’s going to be $25 a ticket and then that will actually include two drink tickets,” Chavez said.

Several local breweries are scheduled to help provide the drinks for the event.

Commissioners wanted to know about security for the adult only night, to which Chavez said they plan to have the best security the city can provide.

“It’s just going to be a lot of fun,” Chavez said.

Chavez isn’t sure yet when tickets will go on sale, but she anticipates it will be about a month in advance of the start of the event.
