Community Chorus and ENMU team up for choir concerts

The Clovis Community Chorus, along with ENMU choirs are gearing up for two concerts that will take place on April 20 and 23.

Tami Martin, Clovis Community Chorus Director and Jason Paulk, Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities for Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU), have teamed up to bring Carl Orff's Carmina Burana to the area. Paulk will conduct both performances.

"It's going to be really neat," Martin said.

"Orff composed this piece for large orchestra, chorus, and baritone, soprano and bass soloists," Paulk said. However, the choir will be performing another edition Orff composed for chorus, soloists, two pianos and percussion ensemble.

The collaboration includes high school students and ranges through senior adults.

"The ENMU Choirs and Clovis Community Choir have collaborated together for past concerts," Paulk said. "Including a complete performance of Handel's Messiah in 2015, with the Santa Fe Symphony."

Paulk said the music ranges from exhilarating, lusciously romantic to highly rhythmic.

According to Martin, there will be over 100 performers on stage; community choir members and those with ENMU.

The performances are expected to last one hour and are free to the public. The dates, times and locations are as follows:

n Saturday, April 20, 7 p.m. at ENMU Music Building - Buchanan Hall

n Tuesday, April 23, 7 p.m. at First Methodist Church - 1501 Sycamore St, Clovis

"The opportunity for eastern New Mexico citizens to hear a master work such as Carl Orff's Carmina Burana performed right in their own backyard is a real treat," Paulk said.
