Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
A new president for Clovis Community College may be chosen at a special meeting of the college’s trustees on Thursday.
According to an advance agenda distributed Friday, the board will meet in executive session as part of the meeting. Afterward the board is slated to attend to the agenda item listed as “Action, if any, regarding presidential selection and employment offer.”
“You can read what the agenda says. That’s all I can divulge at this time,” Board Chair Lora Harlan said Monday.
Five finalists were interviewed by trustees and participated in “open community forums,” in March.
The finalists are:
• Jonathan Fuentes, vice president of academic partnerships at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas.
• Barbara Beebe, president of Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas.
• Morgan Phillips, vice chancellor for academic excellence at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz.
• Christopher Breitmeyer, former president of Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Ore.
• Bryan Newton, vice president for enrollment management and student services at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, Md. Newton is also a finalist for the president’s job at Western Wyoming Community College. WWCC also expects to name its next president on Thursday.
Robin Jones has been interim president since trustees placed Charles Nwankwo on administrative leave in August 2022.
Nwankwo resigned Feb. 1, 2023, without explanation, though several employee groups on the CCC campus issued “no confidence” votes on his leadership.
A search committee hired by trustees narrowed a field of about 50 applicants to the five announced last month.
