Man suspected in 2023 slaying booked

A man suspected in the 2023 slaying of a Clovis woman was booked into the Curry County Detention Center on Friday.

Chasidy Ray Marque Mathis, 37, is being held without bond, jail records show.

District Attorney Quentin Ray said Mathis faces charges of second-degree murder, shooting at a dwelling or occupied building, receipt, transportation or possession of a firearm or destructive device by a felon and child abuse.

Mathis had been pursued by authorities since Melissa Silva was shot on Sept. 20, 2023, in her home. The Montgomerycountypolicereporter.com reported Mathis was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Office on April 19 in Montgomery County, Texas, near Conroe, Texas.

Mathis was in the Montgomery County jail until he was transferred to Clovis.

Silva, 36, died of her injuries early December 2023 in a medical facility in Albuquerque.

Silva told police that her ex-boyfriend, Mathis, shot her through her bedroom window, court records show.

Silva told police she was in bed when she “heard someone yelling from outside.”

“(S)he looked over towards the window where the (air conditioning) unit was and saw Chasidy standing outside yelling at her ... Melissa stated Chasidy then pointed a gun at her and fired two shots.”

The shooting happened in the 1100 block of Hinkle Street in Clovis.

Silva was flown to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the left side of her abdomen. She was initially intubated and sedated, records show, but was able to talk with police a few days later.

Silva’s two teenage daughters were also in the home when their mother was shot. Both told police they were awakened by Silva’s screams after the shooting.

One daughter told police she went outside after the shooting and saw Mathis standing near the porch and pointing a gun at her before running off.

Mathis has been booked into Curry County’s jail multiple times, court records show, and was convicted of a felony in 2018 for possession of a controlled substance.
