Roosevelt manager resigns after 10 years

Roosevelt County Manager Amber Hamilton will be resigning her position and her last day will be July 26.

Hamilton told county commissioners Tuesday and gave them an official letter of resignation.

In the letter, Hamilton wrote, “This has not been an easy nor quick decision as we’ve spent more than 18 months praying for God’s direction and preparing for His release.”

In a separate interview with the News, Hamilton said she and her husband knew this time would come, and God told them it would be in 2024.

“It will be just shy of 10 years,” Hamilton said. “I started in September of 2014.

Hamilton said she has enjoyed this season of public service, even with all of the challenges that came with the job.

Hamilton said one of the hardest challenges was trying to find a good balance between the job and her personal life.

“For me, I’m here 18-20 hours a day. I mean, those days were standard practice for months and years,” she said.

During her time as manager, Hamilton said she fought hard to improve the financial standing of the county.

“Ten years ago when she took over that position, the county was in financial trouble,” Commissioner Paul Grider said. “Since then she has put our county in very, very good shape and it’s all because of the hard work and dedication she’s had.

“Any time I had a question, I don’t care if it was in whichever department, she was able to answer it and always correct it if needed,” Grider said. “She is a remarkable person.”

Hamilton said she worked hard to leave the county in the best position possible, so that the transition could be smooth and easy for the next manager.

“I’ll spend the next 60 days finishing up some projects and getting some things wrapped up as much as I can, of course getting budgets submitted and then we’ll be preparing for audit,” Hamilton said.

She said there’s never going to be an extremely easy time to leave a position like this because there is always something going on.

“But I’m very proud of where the county is,” Hamilton said.

While she didn’t reveal another job in her future, Hamilton said she’s most looking forward to spending more time with her family and serving the Lord.

“The next chapter is always an adventure. I’m excited about that and I don’t know everything that’s in the store,” Hamilton said.
