Disbursement of funds approved

Clovis city commissioners on Thursday approved disbursement of Lodgers Tax Funds to groups making requests for upcoming events.

Awards were:

• Double Dash Barrel Race requested $10,390 and will receive $7,000.

• CSA Softball Tournaments requested $20,000 and will receive $18,000.

• NRL Hunter/Hunters Coalition requested $10,000 and will receive $10,000.

• Run to Hillcrest requested $22,000 and will receive $10,000.

• Summer Bash requested $15,000 and will receive $1,900.

• Dia De La Independencia De Mexico requested $7,800 and will receive $6,000.

• In total, requested asked for $85,190 but are slated to receive $52,900.

Commissioners also approved the city of Clovis receiving  Recreational Trail Program Funds from the New Mexico Department of Transportation to design the Liebelt Channel Trail.

The multi-use trail will connect Bob Spencer Park to Greene Acres Park. The fee for the project is $277,460, less state gross receipts tax.

The grant for the project is $256,320 with a city share of $43,680 for a total of $300,000.

The city match had previously been budgeted.

The Commission approved adding $234,000 more to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. project in the wake of the discovery of "serious" deterioration of the sewer access points from sulfuric acid created by moisture and sewer gases.

The city received Transportation Project Funds from the state's Department of Transportation for pavement improvements to Commerce Way in the amount of $1.4 million.

The funding is made up of a grant for $1.3 million and a city match of $70,434.

The city advertised and received two bids for the project: K. Barnett & Sons - $914,580 and  J&H Services - $1.225 million.

The contract was awarded to K. Barnett & Sons.
