Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Federal funds are coming to Curry County to help with the county’s Retired Senior Volunteer and Foster Grandparent Programs.
A federal grant of $85,476 will be coming from the federal AmeriCorps program.
Curry County Manager Lance Pyle made the announcement Tuesday along with AmeriCorps Portfolio Manager Maryon Bradshaw, Curry County RSVP Coordinator Diana Casidy and County Commission Chair Robert Thornton.
Thornton praised senior volunteers saying it was a senior volunteer who helped his father in his last months of life.
During the presentation in Commission chambers in the County Courthouse Annex, Pyle and Casidy mentioned the need for volunteers for the program.
The federal grant helps provide stipends to pay volunteers if they qualify, Pyle said.
Volunteers should be 55 years old or older and may qualify for $4 per hour and transportation reimbursement.
Volunteers may get five to 40 hours per week of assignments.
Casidy said with the program, volunteers “help seniors remain independent, help with shopping, paying bills, transportation to and from medical appointments and outings.”
Those who are interested in the Curry County programs may call Casidy at (575) 763-0016, ext. 821.
