Portales asks residents to take water survey

The city of Portales is asking residents to participate in a water service survey.

The City Council on Tuesday approved a resolution to allow EPCOR to assess the water. EPCOR provides water to Clovis and other entities.

The Portales water survey asks two questions: if the resident lives in or outside of Portales, and if they prefer waste/wastewater services be provided by a private company or the city.

“The resolution is just the first of many steps showing that the City Council is doing their due diligence to obtain the appropriate data to determine the best decision for this service,” Portales interim City Manager T.J. Cathey said.

Cathey said there is no deadline for participating in the survey, which can be found on the city website: portalesnm.gov .

Cathey said it’s too early in the process to know costs involved if the city brings in EPCOR.

“I believe we will receive this information after their assessment,” Cathey said.

Cathey said late last week he has not been notified when the assessment will begin or how long it might take.
