Clovis High scores new head football coach

A longtime Texas high school football coach is Clovis High’s new head coach, Clovis Municipal Schools officials announced Friday.

Stan Hodges, who’s coached in Texas schools more than 25 years, is scheduled to meet with Wildcats players for the first time on Wednesday.

He succeeds Andrew McCraw who last month was named offensive coordinator at Eastern New Mexico University.

Hodges has been a part of 50 playoff games in his coaching career, according to a CMS news release. Most recently he’s been varsity running backs coach for Odessa Permian High School where he’d been the past three seasons.

Hodges began his coaching career in 1996 as the running backs and track coach at Calallen High School. He left Calallen in 1999 to become varsity football and wrestling coach at Judson High School.

Hodges then went on to Kountze High School where he was boys athletic director and head football coach from 2005 to 2009, the release stated. He also coached at Deer Park High School, West Orange-Stark High School, and Galveston Ball High School before he was named athletic director and head football coach at Hull-Daisetta, where he led those teams to five playoff seasons.

Hodges moved to Permian in 2021.

The news release stated Hodges holds a master’s degree in education administration from Texas A&M, and a bachelor’s in kinesiology from Angelo State University.

After Wednesday’s initial meeting with Clovis High players and coaches, “additional opportunities to meet with players and parents will be announced,” according to the news release.
