Roosevelt County commissioners appear poised to offer their county manager position to Gowan Hays of Portales in a specially called meeting set for 9 a.m. Tuesday at the courthouse.
The lone item on the agenda calls for discussion of limited personnel matters related to the county manager position.
In a meeting held after an executive session on July 8, commissioners unanimously voted to offer the job to Hays, according to minutes from that meeting.
After discussion of compensation and benefits, commissioners agreed to offer Hays a one-year contract at $105,000 with “benefits similar to those offered” Amber Hamilton, who is leaving the position July 26.
Hays said Monday he and county officials are “negotiating a contract and hope to come to an agreement,” but said he would rather not comment until after Tuesday’s meeting.
His LinkedIn page shows he is business manager with K12 Accounting, “dedicated to maintaining school district business offices with efficiency and accuracy.”
He previously was business manager for Dora schools and a 2012 Dora High School graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of New Mexico, according to the information posted on LinkedIn.
County commissioners have been looking to replace Hamilton since she announced her resignation May 28.
The News last week asked officials for a list of candidates and finalists. In response, the county replied “no such lists exists.” It did send a “draft copy” of the July 8 meeting minutes, which included a summary of the executive session and action taken immediately following that meeting.
Hamilton said Monday she is joining Presbyterian Healthcare Services as its director of support services at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
