Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
If you've traveled U.S. 60-84 through Melrose, chances are you noticed the grain elevator.
And if you stopped to take a look around, even better chances are that you met Brenda Allen, who has managed Melrose Grain & Elevator for about seven years.
Allen is from Melrose and graduated MHS in 1983. She and her husband decided to take on this service to give back to the small community.
Q: What did you imagine yourself doing when you were younger? Did you think you'd always stay in Melrose?
A: When I was younger, my dream was to get married, have a family and be able to stay at home with them. I was blessed to be able to do this. I wasn't sure if God's plan was for me to be in Melrose, but I was blessed to live here, as I can't think of a better community to be a part of and raise our family.
Q: Tell us about your family.
A: We got married in 1985, were blessed with four kids (two girls and two boys) and six grandkids. We are also blessed with them all being a part of this community as well.
Q: In your opinion, what is the best meal to eat at the tire store in Melrose?
A: The best meal at the tire store is Angie's Steak Fingers ... with the pizza being a close second.
Q: Who inspires you?
A: There are a lot of great people in this community, but those that inspire me to do my best and encourage me in all I do is my husband, Barry Allen, and my mom, Carolyn DeVaney. They always have my back, no matter the task.
Q: Talk about something that happened recently that made you laugh.
A: What brings me the most joy is my family. My kids make me laugh, and especially my grandkids always give me something to smile about.
Q: You have been granted one superpower. What will it be? And what will you do with it?
A: The superpower I would want is to instill in America and its leaders the desire to follow God's plan with honesty and integrity. It would make America a strong and great country again.
Q: Who's coming to your fantasy dinner party?
A: To watch my family, and to watch each of them grow, no matter at what age, is so rewarding. The time we spend together makes any day brighter. They would definitely be at my fantasy dinner!
