Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Firefighters receive state grants

The New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration has awarded $24.9 million in grants to pay for 190 additional firefighter and EMT positions across the state, according to a DFA news release.

The $24.9 million in awards will help offset the cost of new firefighter and EMT salaries for three years, the release states.

“Firefighters are on the front lines protecting our communities from potentially devastating blazes everyday,” said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham in the release. “As fires––and especially wildfires––grow more frequent and more intense in and around New Mexico communities, it makes good sense to provide them with the resources to protect people, pets, livestock, and property.”

The Clovis Fire Department, the Portales Fire Department and the Tucumcari Fire/EMS Department and Logan are among the many public entities across the state that received this funding, according to the release.
