One critically injured in Sunday shooting

Clovis police found 37 spent shell casings while investigating a Sunday morning shooting that left one man critically injured at the Clovis Apartments, 1000 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

No arrests had been made as of Monday evening. Police said the suspect or suspects may have been driving a dark-colored, full-sized SUV, but had no additional information.

Police were summoned to the apartments soon after 1:30 a.m. Sunday “in response to multiple reports of gunshots and two shooting victims,” according to a police news release.

One of the victims, Christopher Nash, 21, was taken to the Clovis hospital by private vehicle. He was later transferred to a Lubbock hospital in critical but stable condition with a gunshot wound to his chest, police said.

A 15-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to his arm, police said. The teen was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center where he was “uncooperative with investigators,” the release stated.

The Clovis Police Department's Detective Division was activated to lead the investigation. In addition to finding more than three dozen spent shell casings, authorities said “several apartment buildings were found to have been struck by gunfire.”

No other injuries were reported.

Police asked for the public’s help with any information about the shooting.

“If you have any information, please call the non-emergency line at 575-769-1921,” the release stated.

“The Clovis Police Department would like to remind you that information can also be provided anonymously by using the Clovis Police Department’s tip411 program, accessed by going to http://www.police.cityofclovis.org. Anonymous tips can be provided to the Curry County Crime Stoppers at 575-763-7000.”
