Democrats and Republicans in Roosevelt County have set up headquarters in advance of the November election while their compatriots in Curry County are handling politicking on an individual basis.
According to a news release from the Roosevelt County Democratic Party, the days and hours of their headquarters, the red caboose at 604 E. Second St., Portales, have been extended.
Starting today headquarters will be open every other Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. then 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Hours and days of operation will increase in early September and additionally in October, according to the release.
“Members at the HQ are encouraging voter registration for anyone and will be phone banking and/or preparing postcards to send to battleground states. Volunteers are welcome,” according to the release.
A headquarters grand opening is planned for Sept. 21.
The release also noted the DPRC's informational booth will be open at the Roosevelt County Fair through Friday.
DPRC Chair Tate Turnbough is in Chicago this week where he is a New Mexico delegate.
Angie Smith, Roosevelt County Republican Party Chair, said Monday the Roosevelt County Republican headquarters has been open once a week since June in The Rough Riders Room of the James Polk Stone Bank, across the street from the main building at 109 E. Second St. in Portales.
“We’ll be open Tuesdays from noon to 3 p.m.,” Smith said.
Smith noted the party will start adding more “open” days in September.
“People can come check out the merchandise we have and information on candidates. Pull up a chair and visit,” Smith said.
Curry County Democratic Party Chair Jamaal Williams said Monday “We don’t have a headquarters at this time. We’re working on it,” Williams said.
Curry County Republican Party Chair Marcus Smith said Monday there is no county headquarters now.
“We’re handling things on a person-to-person basis. If people want information, email us at [email protected] ,” Smith said.
