Seven injured in Monday collision

Seven people were transported to Plains Regional Medical Center on Monday after an SUV “contacted” the rear of an 18-wheeler on Mabry Drive not far from the eastern Clovis city limits at CR G.

Clovis Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Elam said Tuesday the unidentified occupants of the SUV were two adults and five children.

The driver of the semi was uninjured, according to Elam.

“The SUV driver is a 34-year-old male, there was a female about the same age and five children who ranged in age from an infant to a 12-year-old,” Elam said.

Elam added all were taken to the Clovis hospital “with extremity injuries such as fractures and breaks.”

“One passenger was later airlifted to a Lubbock hospital with a pelvis fracture,” Elam said.

The accident happened about 6:50 p.m. on Monday, Elam said.
