BOVINA – Senior running back Alex Fuentes ran for four touchdowns and sophomore Jaheim Moses returned the second-half kickoff 70 yards for a score, and Texico pulled away to a 50-12 victory over Bovina on Friday night.
Fuentes, who finished with 122 rushing yards, scored on a 53-yard run in the first quarter and a 3-yard run early in the second to stake the Wolverines (2-0) to a 12-0 lead.
The Mustangs (0-1) closed to 20-12 at halftime, though, on senior Angel Lara's 45-yard interception return and a 53-yard pass from sophomore Matt Espinoza to senior Jairo Mares.
Moses' kickoff return keyed a 24-point third quarter for the Wolverines that also included a 3-yard run by Fuentes and a 29-yard TD pass from sophomore quarterback Bennett Wahlen to Fuentes. Texico converted all three 2-point tries in that segment to lead 44-12.
Wahlen had a 25-yard scoring pass to junior Luke Thompson in the opening stanza, while sophomore Jett Curtis added a 13-yard TD run in the final period.
Curtis totaled 73 yards on the ground for the Wolverines, who held a 349-235 margin in total offense. Espinoza ran for 49 yards on 13 attempts for Bovina, and also completed 14-of-39 passes to seven receivers for 179 yards.

Elida 57, Hondo 6 – At Elida, the Tigers led 44-6 at halftime and scored twice early in the third frame to end it on the 50-point rule.
Junior Cason Norman scored three touchdowns for Elida (2-0) on runs of 75 and 17 yards and on a 35-yard pass from junior Hayden Rubio. Senior Dylan Dobbins had TD runs of 2 and 22 yards, while senior Hardy Fraze threw a 4-yard scoring pass to junior Taten Norman and also tallied on a 55-yard run and a 36-yard pass from Rubio.
Junir T.J. Kennedy provided the first points of the night for the Tigers on a 3-yard run. The lone score for the Eagles (0-2) came on a 15-yard run by senior Caleb Chavez in the opening quarter.
Grady 53, Animas 0 – After an hour-long rain delay at Animas, sophomore Zander Ciancio threw six touchdown passes and the Bronchos (2-0) ended the game at halftime against the Panthers (0-1).
Ciancio's TD tosses were for 9 and 7 yards to sophomore Konor King, 21 yards to sophomore Gavin West, 20 yards to freshman Trell Foote, 22 yards to sophomore Hays Rush and 24 yards to senior Chevy Dickson, the latter as time expired in the opening half.
Meantime, senior Deakin Ragland scored on a 48-yard run on the first play from scrimmage, and Dickson added a 7-yard TD run late in the opening period.
New Deal 34, Farwell 20 – At New Deal, the Lions got two touchdown passes from junior quarterback Dallas Sumner and 125 rushing yards and a pair of scores from senior running back Treven Cooper in the season opener for both teams.
Both of Sumner's touchdown passes went to senior David Aguirre, who also ran for a score.
Senior quarterback Jonathan Armstrong rushed for 101 yards and completed 9-of-20 passes for 204 yards for the Steers, including TD tosses of 30 yards to junior Hudson Agee in the first quarter and 12 yards to senior Alonzo Lozano in the third. Lozano added a 12-yard touchdown run in the second segment.
Also on Friday night, Melrose (2-0) posted a 50-22 victory over defending Colorado 8-man champion Mancos (0-1) in a neutral-field tilt played at Escalante. The Buffaloes avenged a loss to the Bluejays from last season.

Dora 59, Carrizozo 0 – The host Coyotes erupted for seven first-quarter tallies in their season opener and ended the game against the Grizzlies (0-2) at halftime on the 50-point rule.
Senior Gunnar Tipton and Aaron Combs each scored on a pair of runs for Dora, while Ashton Davis also scored twice on passes from Combs and sophomore Carson Kircher. Kircher added second-quarter TD tosses to junior Finnegan Martin and eighth-grader Grydar Tipton.
All told, 10 players scored for the Coyotes via either touchdown or extra-point conversion.
New Mexico School for the Deaf 52, Floyd 12 – At Floyd, the visiting Roadrunners led 18-6 at the quarter and steadily pulled away against the Broncos in the opener for both teams.
Junior Issak Bustamante scored both touchdowns for Floyd, on a 55-yard run in the first period on on a 50-yard pass from freshman Brayden Parks in the fourth.
