About 250 attend airport event

It was an oasis of, well, wings and wheels at the fourth year of Clovis Regional Airport’s fourth Wings-N-Wheels event.

Amanda Brungart, the airport’s director, said 250 people, 25 cars and six aircraft were in attendance Saturday despite severe thunderstorm threats.

“We had a Cessna 414, we had a Cessna Caravan, which was a freight aircraft that came in, and then a couple of our base tenants were able to come out as well,” Brungart said.

While Brungart said she was pleased with the event, she said it was “somewhat minimized due to pending weather. A couple of the aircraft had to, unfortunately, cancel because of that as well.”

Despite the weather, she said the event saw an uptick in participation this year.

“We’ve seen more vehicle registration participants and more of the general public come out to it,” she said.

“Over the past couple of years, we’ve been working to try and get more involvement on the aviation side, but we’ve had a lot of sponsors and different aviation avenues that have been interested in it … We feel that next year is definitely going to be even bigger.”
