CANYON – Senior Sammy Fuentes finished third and led Clovis High’s boys to a third-place team finish in Saturday’s Canyon Invitational cross country meet.
Fuentes posted a time of 15 minutes, 40.53 seconds over the 5K course, finishing behind two Canyon runners – including winner Lathan Lewter (15:14.57).
Canyon cruised to team honors in a field of 13 full squads with 22 points, well ahead of Frenship (112) and the Cats (143), who edged Plainview by one point.

Ledezma said Fuentes had a plan, and he accomplished what he set out to do.
“His goal was to stick with the Canyon guys for the first two minutes, and he did it,” she said. “All our boys improved from last time.”
