Clovis Community College trustees on Wednesday dealt with progress in helping Science, Technology, Engineering & Math students, new highlights from the financial aid department and what’s available in library services to students as well as area residents.
Title V Project Director Nohemi Lara Miller outlined a number of areas where the $2.996 million fiscal year 2024 federal Title V grant was dispersed.
A special STEM study area was brought up along with tools including digital cadavers, a 3D dissecting table and more.
Director of Financial Aid April Chavez gave her final report to the Board as Friday was scheduled to be her last day before retirement.
Chavez has been with CCC since 1997.
Chavez reported the federal Pell Grant is the most common financial aid money source.
She also reported her office works to keep the acquisition of loans by students down so they won’t be burdened with debt.
Chavez went on to report most financial aid to CCC students comes from the federal government followed by the state of New Mexico.
Chavez’ replacement, Nayeli Caldera Martinez, introduced herself to the board and meeting audience.
CCC President Jonathan Fuentes reported the Cultural Arts Series had a great opening night Sept. 21 with the World Famous Popovich Comedy Pet Theater.
Fuentes encouraged attendance at the next Cultural Arts event, Sugar Skull, “A dia de los muertes musical adventure,” Oct. 17 at Marshall Auditorium.
Fuentes talked about the art exhibit, “Faces & Places” featuring the works of six artists at CCC’s Eula Mae Edwards Gallery through Nov. 15.
The college will host a Halloween Trunk or Treat event Oct. 30, Fuentes said.
He also encouraged voting for General Obligation Bond 3 on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot. There is $2 million slated for CCC upon approval.
The board’s next meeting is set for 8 a.m. Nov. 6 in room 512 on the CCC campus.
