Studio caretaker honored by Buddy Holly foundation

Portales' Kenneth Broad last month was awarded the "Honored Friend" of the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation ambassador award.

The award is a custom-made Buddy Holly-inspired guitar, and is to be displayed in the iconic Norman Petty Studio in Clovis, according to a news release from Friends of Norman Petty Inc.

The guitar was presented Sept. 30 to Broad by Board Director Peter Bradley Jr.

Broad, for over 40 years, has been the key representative, caretaker, and tour guide of the Norman Petty Studios in Clovis.

According to the news release:

The ceremony's host Greg Harris, chief executive officer of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, conducted interviews with Broad about his time with Petty and his legacy preserving the studios, along with studios managing member Greg Walker.

There were additional interviews with Friends of Norman Petty Non-Profit organization. Board President Randy Petty and Director Ron Skinner highlighted the history, and future preservation of the studios.

The event was hosted by the Buddy Holly Education Foundation at Lubbock's Buddy Holly Hall. It was centered around a release of a new book: Buddy Holly: Words of Love!
