Portales Chamber names new executive director

Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce has named Quaylene Parkey its new executive director.

She will start Nov. 1, according to a Chamber news release.

Her hiring was unanimously approved by the full board at its September meeting.

"We feel very fortunate to have someone of Quaylene's business background and public relations experience available to step into this position," said Chamber President Eldon Merrick.

"We also feel very fortunate she is a member of this community and has been for years. We look forward to seeing how she will lead us in the future."

Parkey succeeds Stephen Hardin, who resigned last month after accepting the position in March.

Parkey recently retired from Hampton Farms where she was a sales manager.

She and other family members operate The Roosevelt Review, an online only news site.

"Quaylene has been active in numerous organizations and volunteer positions, including time as a Chamber board member (and manager)," the news release stated.

"She has also been very active in service at her church."

Parkey stated in the news release:

"I believe in the strengths of Roosevelt County and I'm excited to work with the Chamber to highlight those strengths and help make our Chamber and community as strong and vibrant as possible."

Parkey is a lifelong resident of the Portales area.
