Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
More than three weeks after fall’s official arrival on Sept. 22, it’s starting to feel like the season.
Eastern New Mexico was expected to wake up to temperatures in the low 40s this morning and forecasts show the warmest day for the next week won’t see 80.
In addition, rain is expected across eastern New Mexico beginning Thursday night and continuing through the weekend.
The National Weather Service predicted a 50% chance of rain for Friday and Saturday with high temperatures in the mid-60s to low-70s.
While Clovis and Portales have each seen first frost as early as Sept. 21 (in 1983), freezing temperatures for eastern New Mexico are not in NWS’ 10-day forecast.
The first freeze of the season is expected today from Raton to Las Vegas, in the Estancia Valley including Moriarty, and in the upper Rio Grande Valley, NWS reports.
