No. 9 Lady Buffs topple Hounds

After struggling a bit at the start, No. 9 West Texas A&M settled in and the Lady Buffs went on to post a 25-18, 25-12, 25-10 victory over Eastern New Mexico University on Saturday in Lone Star Conference volleyball at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.

Senior outside hitter Camy Jones and junior middle hitter Taytum Stow each had eight kills for WT (13-3, 6-0 LSC), while Stow also added four blocks. Senior setters Ainsley Malis and Blair Moreland compiled 17 and 10 assists, respectively, while senior defensive specialist and ENMU transfer Getsemani Carrasco compile nine assists.

Senior outside hitter Darcy Dodd nine team-highs of nine kills and two aces for the Greyhounds (3-14, 0-6). Junior defensive specialist Imahni Brown had a match-high 15 digs, and freshman setters Cayla Reyes and freshman libero/defensive specialist Angelina Sanchez each notched nine assists.

ENMU led for much of the opening set, building leads of 10-7 and 12-10 before WT went on a 12-2 run to take control. In Game 2, the Lady Buffs used a 13-1 run to break away from an 8-5 advantage, and they posted a pair of 6-0 blitzes in the third set en route to the sweep.

It was the 99th all-time meeting between the squads, with WT improving to 89-10. The Lady Buffs' only losses this season have been to No. 18 Ferris State (Mich.) and No. 4 Missouri-St. Louis in five sets, and to conference rival and 21st-ranked Angelo State in an LSC crossover event.

Next up for the Hounds are conference matches at Texas-Tyler on Friday night and at Dallas Baptist on Saturday.
