Journalist, musician win Rounders awards

LAS CRUCES – New Mexico writer-photographer Julie Carter and musician Joe Delk received the 2024 Rounders Award Oct. 16 at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum.

According to a news release from the New Mexico Department of Agriculture:

The award was named after “The Rounders,” a classic Western novel written by Max Evans. Created in 1990 by former New Mexico Agriculture Secretary Frank DuBois, the purpose of the award is to honor those who live, promote and articulate the Western way of life.

New Mexico Agriculture Secretary Jeff Witte presented the awards to Carter, Delk and The Delk Band.

Julie Carter was raised on a ranch in Colorado and has lived on a ranch in New Mexico for 40 years.

The Delk Band has been performing across New Mexico and the region for decades. Joe Delk joined the group and started playing music with his father and brother in the 1950s.
