ENMU men, Tyler play to 0-0 draw

TYLER, Texas – Eastern New Mexico University's men were outshot 20-4 overall, but Texas-Tyler managed only three shots on goal and the teams battled to a scoreless draw on Saturday in Lone Star Conference soccer.

It was the fourth meeting all-time between the Greyhounds and Patriots, and three of them have ended in draws – two of the scoreless variety and the other a 1-1 deadlock. Tyler picked up a 3-0 win at home in 2022.

ENMU (4-3-5, 2-1-1 LSC) posted a second consecutive shutout for the first time since 2019, and the first time in conference action since 2016. The Hounds are currently in a four-way tie for third in the league with St. Edward's (4-4-3, 2-1-2), Dallas Baptist (3-3-6, 2-1-2) and Lubbock Christian (5-4-4, 2-2-2), each with eight points.

Each team had just one shot on goal in the first half. The Patriots (2-5-5, 0-2-4) ratcheted up the pressure in the second segment, but Hounds freshman goalkeeper Milo Paci made two quality saves in the first five minutes of the stanza to keep the score even.

With five matches remaining in the regular campaign, ENMU hosts Dallas Baptist in a 6 p.m. start today at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

Women – Angelo State remained unbeaten in Lone Star Conference women's soccer action on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico University at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

The Rambelles (8-1-3, 6-0-1 LSC), ranked 14th in NCAA Division II, took command of the match with a goal just before halftime for a 2-0 lead. It was the 17th consecutive victory over the Greyhounds (2-9-1, 1-7) for ASU, led by former ENMU coach Travis McCorkle.

Senior midfielder/defender Katelin Heise put Angelo in front with a goal in the 21st minute after intercepting an attempted clearing pass from ENMU and beating ENMU freshman goalkeeper Rosie Willmott Joyce. The second tally came in the 42nd minute when junior midfielder Abby James sent a free kick inside the box, where senior forward Shaelyn Ward headed it to junior midfielder Abby James for the goal.

About 12 minutes int o the second stanza, sophomore midfielder Sophia Barrientos found freshman forward/midfielder Madison Bourzikas from inside the box for the final goal.

ENMU, which dropped its sixth consecutive match, did not attempt a shot on goal as the Rambelles recorded their 10th shutout of the campaign.

The Hounds' next outing is at 1 p.m. on Saturday at home against St. Mary's.
