A Texico man is in an Amarillo hospital after his car was rammed by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe trail Sunday at about 7:30 a.m. according to Curry County Sheriff Michael Brockett.
According to a news release from Brockett, deputies responded to a report of a vehicle being struck by a train at the Garwood St. railroad crossing in Texico, just west of the US 70/84 crossing at the state line.
Deputies located a green pickup truck approximately 400 feet west of the Garwood St. railroad crossing where it was pushed by a BNSF locomotive after
having collided in the intersection.
The vehicle was occupied by Andres Rodriguez, 26, of Texico.
Brockett reports Rodriguez was conscious and had visible injuries.
Rodriguez reported to deputies that he was not sure
what happened.
BNSF Train conductor Floyd Willis reported to deputies that the pick-up was parked on the train tracks between the crossing arms before the
collision.
The train crew was unable to stop the train before impact.
Rodriguez was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis for treatment.
He was later transferred to a medical facility in Amarillo.
Brockett reports the cause of this crash remains under investigation.
