Shacie Marr lifts ENMU women to 3rd in Tech rodeo

LUBBOCK – For a second consecutive season, Eastern New Mexico University senior Shacie Marr has claimed the women’s all-around title in the Texas Tech rodeo.

Marr reached the short go round in three events to help ENMU’s women place third, accounting for all of the team’s 172 ½ points. Tarleton State (385) won it and Texas Tech (220) was second.

Most of her points (100) came in barrel racing. After slipping into the short go when she split 10th and 11th place in the long go, Marr came in second in the short go with a time of 17.36 seconds.

In goat tying, she split third and fourth in the short go with a time of 8.0 seconds, good for 65 points, and added 7 ½ points in the long round of breakaway roping with a time of 2.8 seconds to split fifth through eighth places.

ENMU’s men did not score over the weekend. Tarleton also claimed the men’s team title with 270 points to 335 for Oklahoma Christian.

The Greyhounds finish the fall portion of their schedule Nov. 7-9 at the Vernon (Texas) College rodeo.

Cross country – At Kingsville, Texas, ENMU’s men finished 12th in a 12-team field on Saturday in the Lone Star Conference championships, hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The Hounds tallied 363 points to trail 11th-place Angelo State by five points. West Texas A&M posted its third perfect score (15) in the event and second in a row en route to its 12th consecutive LSC title, while St. Edward’s was second at 96 and Western New Mexico finished third at 97.

WT’s William Amponash was the winner in the 8K race with a time of 23 minutes, 16.68 seconds for a 30-second margin over teammate Harry Louradour.

The Hounds’ top four runners are all freshmen – Bryan Hernandez, 69th in 27:28.15; Justin Sauceda, 80th in 27:59.68; Thomas Aerdts, 83rd in 28:03.37, and Jackson Gable, 94th in 28:30.90. Rounding out their performance were sophomore Brian Norton, 99th in 29:19.52, and senior Ethan Woodrome, 102nd in 31:01.68.

In the women’s 6K race, WT just missed a perfect score, going 1-2-3-5-6 for 17 points, led by Sara Koomson in 20:32.16. Dallas Baptist was a distant second with 66 points, while Midwestern State claimed third with 106.

ENMU had only two runners in the competition – freshman Elizabeth Lujan-Towles placed 62nd in 20:32.68, and senior Sanne Janssen was 98th in 26:39.27.
