Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
What is happening in the space where Portales’ old City Hall building was located on the square?
Roosevelt County Electric Cooperative acquired the old City Hall property from the city of Portales to expand its parking needs, according to RCEC General Manager Eric Segovia.
“We added 30 parking spaces that will be available for RCEC and public parking,” Segovia wrote in an email.
Segovia added the parking lot will include two level-three fast-charge electric vehicle stations.
“We hope these stations will draw EV owners to downtown Portales as they pass through town where they will be able to shop and dine while they charge,” Segovia wrote.
Segovia noted the remainder of the property will be a courtyard that will be open to the public and available for public events through RCEC.
“The first planned event will be a Christmas tree lighting ceremony during the Christmas parade on Dec. 6,” Segovia wrote.
He noted the Christmas tree is donated by Western Commerce Bank.
“The time capsule that was in the building is still in its original place. Other historical markers will be incorporated into the landscaping,” Segovia wrote.
