Eight girls, age 5-10, are vying for the 2024 little miss merry christmas title, according to ambassadors for the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce.
As a part of Portales’ holiday tradition, the little miss merry christmas Contest raises funds for Christmas lighting programs and the Portales Fireworks Fund.
The contest runs until 5 p.m. Dec. 4.
An official pre-parade coronation ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Yam Theatre, 219 S. Main, at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 5.
The Christmas Jubilee and Lighted Christmas Parade is set for Dec. 6 with downtown activities beginning at 5 p.m., followed by the parade at 5:30 p.m. The parade begins at Second Street and Ave. O. The parade then travels east on Second Street to Main and around the courthouse square before disbanding at Main and First Street.
The contestant that raises the most money through donations collected by her sponsor and through additional fundraising efforts will be crowned little miss merry christmas with all runners-up receiving the title of Princess.
The Portales Christmas Jubilee is celebrating its 38th year.
