Clovis police: One dead, two others hospitalized in Wednesday shooting

One person was shot to death and two others were taken to the Clovis hospital with gunshot wounds early Wednesday evening.

Clovis police said a vehicle crash near the scene was related to the shootings.

Police said all the gunshot victims are believed to have been involved in the incident. Police were looking for at least one other person who may also have been involved.

The violence began sometime before 4:45 p.m. when police received a report of a shooting in the 2200 block of Mitchell Street.

Responding officers soon discovered there were “multiple victims related to this shooting,” police stated in a news release.

One male was located in the street, police said. Three people were transported to Plains Regional Medical Center; one of those victims died, police said.

Police did not release the deceased victim’s name. Conditions of the other victims was not immediately known.

The 9th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit was activated to investigate.

“The scene is still active,” police stated in a media release about 7:15 p.m.

Clovis Police Capt. Roman Romero told a freelance photographer for The News that “multiple” people were shot and authorities were investigating in “multiple locations.”

Most of the police activity appeared to be taking place in the vicinity of Main and John Doe streets, where a vehicle hit a house. A heavy police presence remained in the area into Wednesday evening. The homeowner was not injured. The car appeared to have penetrated the wall of the home.

The vehicle that hit the house and another vehicle nearby were both believed to have been involved in the shootings, police said.

Emergency radio traffic stated a person was "down in the road" near 21st and Mitchell streets. A second gunshot victim was reported near 21st and La Fonda, according to the radio traffic.
