State releases school designations

The New Mexico Public Education Department recently released its latest school designation data, recognizing Barry, Mesa, and Zia schools as Spotlight Schools for ranking in the top 25% of public schools across the state.

Brown Early Childhood Center earned a Spotlight designation among Portales schools. Dora Elementary, Dora High School, Elida Elementary, Floyd Elementary, Floyd High School, Fort Sumner Elementary, Fort Sumner High School, Fort Sumner Middle School, Grady Elementary, Grady Middle School, Melrose Elementary, Melrose High School, Texico Elementary School, Texico High School and Texico Middle School also earned Spotlight status.

All other schools within Curry and Roosevelt County districts received Traditional designations.

“Notably, W.D. Gattis Middle School progressed from a CSI (Comprehensive Support and Improvement) designation to Traditional, while Marshall, Yucca, Parkview, and iAcademy improved from ATSI (Additional Targeted Support and Improvement) to Traditional status,” according to a news release from Clovis schools.

School designations are determined based on a range of criteria, including academic proficiency in math, science, and reading, growth in math and reading, and graduation rates, as well as performance within specific student groups.
