Eastern New Mexico University’s Board of Regents on Friday approved a list of Capital Outlay requests for the upcoming 2025 state legislative session.
The list was presented to the regents by ENMU Vice president of Business Affairs and System Chief Financial Officer Tony Major.
In his presentation letter, Major described the list as “prioritized by need and by the fit of such requests with legislative interests.”
The listed requests are:
• $408,000 for an Animal Education and Research Center.
• $450,000 for Allied Health Education and Research - Anatomy & imaging system.
• $893,935 for information technology systems infrastructre upgrades.
• $1 million for baseball outfield turf.
• $1.2 million for a physical plant air-cooled chiller.
• $450,000 for Blackwater Draw National Historic Landmark infrastructure upgrades.
• $200,000 for KENW equipment.
• $400,000 for Digital Film & Theatre department facilities & equipment upgrade.
• $375,000 toward expanding Science, Technology, Engineering & Math education and research.
• $307,000 for the College of Fine Arts supporting fine arts performance.
Major wrote in his presentation letter, “The list of projects will provide a range of opportunities for funding that can take advantage of non-recurring funds available this legislative session.”
In other matters, Major also reported that inflation and rising costs in general merit a 2 1/2% increase in tuition but there won’t be an increase because of the support ENMU receives from the state.
“As long as we have state support, we don’t need a tuition increase,” Major said.
ENMU-Roswell President Shawn Powell reported on the effect the Oct. 19 flash flood had on Roswell and its effect on that branch of the university.
Regent Lance Pyle asked Major if he had heard anything from the property insurance companies providing coverage for ENMU-Roswell and ENMU-Ruidoso in the wake of the catastrophes in those areas.
Major said he had not.
Pyle advised Major to be prepared for such communication as insurance rates on county government properties in counties in New Mexico that have seen catastrophes have gone up significantly,
in part due to catastrophes including the Roswell flood and the Lincoln County fires.
Following the public session, regents adjourned into executive session to discuss three undisclosed personnel matters. No action was taken following the executive session.
