Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
A man was shot in the leg Friday in Clovis and police are investigating whether it was self-inflicted or an assault.
According to a Clovis police news release:
* Police were called to the 1000 block of West 10th Street about 2:30 p.m. Friday in reference to a gunshot victim.
* Raynaldo Enriquez, 36, told police he was shot by an unknown assailant while walking down the street. Enriquez was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis before being transferred to a Texas hospital.
* Detectives located the gun on scene and spoke with witnesses who said Enriquez came to their door saying he accidentally shot himself. Based on the evidence on scene and witness statements, detectives believe Enriquez shot himself while manipulating the firearm.
The incident remains under investigation.
