Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The Clovis Police Department last week announced a new program aimed at reducing retail theft.
The task force, consisting of retailers, law enforcement, regional and state lawmakers, is called the New Mexico Organized Retail Crime Association.
“NMORCA is cooperating with local businesses and shares information on retail theft and any organizations involved in retail theft,” according to a police news release.
“The goal is to prevent these incidents, reduce losses, and prevent unnecessary price increases for merchandise.”
The release stated that an operation was conducted in July that focused on two Clovis businesses.
During the operation, four people were arrested, and six were issued a criminal summons for shoplifting.
“The results of this operation proved that a coordinated effort between law enforcement and business proprietors can and will reduce retail crime, and will reduce some need for increased costs for goods,” the release stated.
Any retail business interested in joining NMORCA can contact the Clovis Police Department at 575-769-1921 or the Clovis Chamber of Commerce at 575-763-3435.
