LEVELLAND – Ropes put a relatively quick end to Farwell’s season on Friday night.
The Eagles scored three times in the opening stanza and cruised to a 28-0 victory over the Steers in the bi-district (second) round of the Texas Class 2A Division II football playoffs.
Senior running back Mason Marmolejo scored three times for Ropes (11-1) while sophomore quarterback Kaden Riker added the other TD, all on the ground.
Ropes will face Wink (11-1) this weekend in a regional semifinal tilt, at a site and time to be determined. The Wildcats advanced with a 50-0 rout of Sundown on Friday night.
Ropes forced a punt two minutes into Friday’s contest and scored three minutes later. Two more punts followed, and the Eagles converted both into touchdowns to take a 21-0 lead in the final minute of the opening stanza.
The Eagles added their final tally about midway through the fourth quarter. Meantime, their defense blanked the Steers (5-7) to post their fifth shutout of the season.
Ropes, whose only loss was at Sundown 28-21 on Oct. 25, has outscored its opponents for the season 507-122.
