NAZARETH – A fast start helped Nazareth’s boys defeat Bovina 58-36 on Friday night.
The Swifts (2-0) opened a 22-8 lead after one quarter, then put the game completely out of reach by outscoring the Mustangs 18-8 in the third stanza.
High (19), Bacius (14) and Rogers (11) combined for 44 of Nazareth’s points.
Sophomore Matthew Espinoza tallied 20 points for the Mustangs (0-2), including three of the team’s four 3-pointers.
In Tuesday girls action:
Farwell 65, Shallowater 56 – At Shallowater, the Lady Blue opened a 17-8 lead at the quarter and went on to improve to 4-1 by beating the Class 3A Lady Mustangs.
Senior Bella Jaime led Farwell with 22 points, while senior Makylee Baldwin added 18 and senior Landri Richey 13.
Also on Tuesday, Bovina (1-4) earned its first victory of the season with a 48-30 triumph at Boys Ranch.
On the boys’ side, Farwell opened its season with a 56-46 win at Smyer, outscoring the Bobcats 17-9 in the second stanza for a six-point halftime lead.
Meantime, Bovina also played its season opener and suffered a 94-44 loss to Boys Ranch. The Roughriders (1-0) got a combined 73 points from freshman Chase Fritcher (42) and sophomore Corde Jackson (31), who combined to go 30-for-41 from the field.
