Portales police officer arrested

A Portales police officer on Sunday was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and false imprisonment during a domestic dispute, records show.

Jarvis Hall, 31, was booked into the Roosevelt County Detention Center. Jail records show he had been released as of Tuesday morning.

A news release from Portales police states Hall was placed on paid administrative leave “pending the outcome of the internal investigation, as per policy.”

The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department is handling the criminal investigation, the release stated. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

A criminal complaint filed in Roosevelt County Magistrate Court shows law officers were called to Hall’s home in the 2100 block of Santa Ana Court just before 5 a.m. Sunday in response to a domestic dispute.

Destini Hall told investigators her husband had tried to prevent her from leaving a bathroom, causing her to fall onto her back, hitting her head on the toilet and bathtub.

She also told officials her husband had covered her mouth so that she could not breathe and ripped her Apple watch off of her wrist in an attempt to prevent her from calling 911.

Destini Hall was treated for injuries related to the incident at Roosevelt General Hospital, records show.

Jarvis Hall told authorities he was trying to prevent his wife from leaving the house and “driving off drunk.” Destini Hall said she told her husband she “did not want to leave the residence, she just wanted to leave the bathroom,” the criminal complaint shows.

False imprisonment is a fourth-degree felony charge.
