Where can I get free flu and coronavirus vaccines? If they’re not free, how much are they?

What may be “free” shots to insured individuals are not “free” to the uninsured.

“(Flu and covid shots) are typically covered 100% by insurance providers,” Amanda Schoenberg said. She is director of Communications and Content Strategy for Presbyterian Healthcare Services, operator of Clovis’ Plains Regional Medical Center Pharmacy.

In an email, Schoenberg wrote PRMC Chief Executive Bill Priest “confirmed that the PRMC Retail Pharmacy is offering both flu and Covid shots. These are available 9 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.” most days.

David Briseño, outreach director at the Clovis and Portales La Casa Family Health Center, wrote in an email “La Casa does not offer free flu shots. I am not aware of any agency that provides them at no charge.”

Briseño added as far as he knew, the state does not pay for the flu shot.

“La Casa does offer flu shots for adults and children. Should the patient not have insurance, the cost is $20,” Briseño wrote.

A general price inquiry by The News of the various pharmacies in Clovis and Portales found the cash price for flu vaccines ranged from $30 to $54. Covid vaccines cost from $125 to $270.
