Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
'Tis the season for parades.
Clovis, Farwell, Melrose and Portales all have planned to light up the night.
First up: The Portales Christmas Light Parade is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The lineup begins at the Eastern New Mexico University Theatre before traveling down Second Street to Main Street, and then wrapping up in the parking lot at C&S, Inc., 300 W. First St.
More information is available by calling 575-356-8541.
Clovis' Christmas Light Parade is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.
That one begins in the parking lot of the Hilltop Shopping Plaza then moves south on Main Street through downtown Clovis.
Clovis MainStreet Executive Director Lisa Pelligrino Spear said it's "the largest, single-day, free, family friendly event hosted in Clovis all year."
Expect a crowd.
"Last year we had over 14,900 unique cell phone users in downtown for the parade. Adding those without cell phones and we could be nearing 20,000 attendees," Pelligrino Spear said on Monday.
Farwell plans to join in the holiday spirit with a Christmas Light Parade set to begin at 6:30 p.m. (CST) Sunday.
Its parade will assemble on Avenue H south of the high school, then proceed down Ninth Street to Avenue C, turning at the nursing home and ending at First Street, organizers said.
Santa Claus is expected to be at the Farwell Fire Department for pictures.
The Melrose Christmas Parade and Christmas tree lighting is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 13.
That schedule calls for cookies and hot chocolate.
Raffle tickets will also be on sale for a chance to win a Christmas quilt.
