Clovis police on Tuesday announced they’re investigating the death of a toddler that occurred last week.
A police news release stated officials were notified Nov. 27 that a 12-month-old boy had been transported to Plains Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
On arrival, Calian Skywater “was not breathing and live-saving measures were unsuccessful,” the release stated.
Police said the child had bruising to his forehead and face. “When asked about the injuries, the mother explained that Calian had fallen three days prior, causing these injuries. The mother told responding officers that Calian was seen by his pediatric physician for the injuries,” the release stated.
The region’s Major Crimes Unit was activated to investigate the case. Officials said they are awaiting autopsy results from the Office of the Medical Investigator before determining whether the death might be declared a homicide.
“The Clovis Police Department investigates all cases of unattended death, especially in cases of children, toddlers, and infants,” the news release stated.
