EPAC tournament on tap at Texico

TEXICO – Pairings have been announced for the eight-school Eastern Plains Athletic Conference tournament, set to begin its three-day run on Thursday at Texico.

Games will be played in both gyms at Texico. On the boys’ side, the host Wolverines are the top seed and play eighth-seeded Floyd while No. 4 Melrose battles fifth-seeded n 7 p.m. matchups.

In the 4 p.m. contests, it’ll be third-seeded Fort Sumner against sixth-seeded Elida and No. 2 Logan against No. 7 Dora.

Fort Sumner earned the No. 1 seed for the girls and will face eighth-seeded Floyd at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, while fourth-seeded Logan plays fifth-seeded Dora in the other 5:30 p.m. tilt.

In 2:30 p.m. contests, second-seeded Texico takes on No. 7 Grady and sixth-seeded Elida clashes with No. 3 Melrose.

Consolation semifinals are set for Wolverine Gym and championship semifinals for the Sports Arena on Friday. All eight final-round games on Saturday will be played in the Sports Arena.

Melrose is the defending champion on both sides, beating Logan by a point in both title games at home last January – the boys winning 57-56 and the girls posting a 44-43 triumph.
