A vehicle involved in an attempted traffic stop was struck by a train late Wednesday night, Clovis police said.
No one was inside the vehicle when it was hit by the train at the Norris Street crossing and no injuries were reported.
Police on Thursday were trying to locate the person operating the vehicle.
According to a police news release:
• About 11:44 p.m. Wednesday, a Clovis police officer attempted a traffic stop in the area of Prince and McDonald streets. The vehicle failed to yield to the officer’s emergency lights, fleeing through a field. The vehicle was not pursued.
• Officers set a perimeter at Mabry Drive, when they noticed a person running north, who emerged from the tree line on the south side of Mabry Drive. Officers were unable to locate the person who was running.
• Moments later, police dispatch relayed there had been a crash involving a vehicle and a train near the Norris Street crossing. BNSF employees stated the vehicle had been stuck on the median between railroad tracks when it was struck by the train. No one was found in the vehicle but police determined it was the same vehicle that fled the attempted traffic stop.
