Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
How many murders have happened in Clovis from 2020 through 2024?
The city has seen 28 homicides during that five-year period.
Clovis Police Department Deputy Chief Trevor Thron reported the numbers by year:
• 2020: 2
• 2021: 5
• 2022: 7
• 2023: 9
• 2024: 5
He noted Clovis has a population of 37,612. Roswell’s population is 47,109. Hobbs’ population is 39,386.
Roswell had 46 homicides and Hobbs had 37 homicides between 2020 and 2024.
“Looking at these numbers and comparing Clovis to Roswell and Hobbs, our closest neighbors with similar populations, our numbers are typically lower if not on par with these other cities,” Thron said.
“While each city faces its own unique economic, demographic, and social challenges, I would say our trends are consistent with what other cities of comparable size are experiencing.
“And to your reader, (who asked the question) I would like to say: We are consistently striving to reduce violent crime in Clovis by focusing on community engagement, which I believe is extremely important for helping us solve crimes. We rely heavily on those partnerships with our community and it’s important to us. And of course, our ultimate goal is to get our murder numbers to zero.”
