Clovis police arrest robbery suspect

Clovis police on Wednesday activated its SWAT team and subsequently arrested a man on charges of robbery and shoplifting.

According to a news release from Capt. Roman Romero:

* About 4:48 p.m. Wednesday, a Clovis police officer was driving in the area of Merriwether Street and recognized a wanted person -- Jesus Anaya, 31.

* Officers set a perimeter on a residence in the 800 block of Merriwether and were able to verify Anaya was in the home. Anaya crawled into the attic of the home, in effort to evade arrest. Based on the arrest warrant, the Clovis Police Department SWAT Team was activated. Officers at the scene began calling to Anaya to surrender himself, but he did not comply.

* A search warrant for the residence for the recovery of Jesus Anaya and for weapons in the home was applied for through the courts. Shortly after, Anaya was arrested.

Anaya was being held without bond in the Curry County Adult Detention Center on Wednesday night.
